PowerPoint Night

It’s time to turn your oddly specific interests into a full presentation. Join us on July 10th from 6:30–8:30pm at a home in Richmond for PowerPoint Night—an evening of fast-paced presentations, niche passions, and the kind of topics that somehow become way more entertaining with slides.

Each presenter will have up to six minutes to share a PowerPoint on the topic of their choice. The more specific, random, or deeply personal the subject, the better. Whether you’re defending a hot take, ranking something unnecessarily, explaining an obscure hobby, or sharing an oddly detailed area of expertise, this is your moment.

No pressure to present if you’d rather just watch and enjoy the chaos! Topics should stay family-friendly, and additional details about tech setup and logistics will be shared after registration. Snacks are encouraged, and free street parking (plus some backyard parking) is available.

Learn A New Craft: Swedish Weaving

Learn A New Craft: Swedish Weaving

Join us on Thursday, July 23rd from 7–9pm at 2810 W. Cary St. (Depot) for an evening of learning Swedish weaving—a simple, rhythmic style of embroidery that creates beautiful geometric patterns across the surface of fabric. In Swedish weaving (also called huck weaving or huck embroidery), you work with thread and the weave of the fabric itself to create a design that sits on the surface. It's similar to a counted cross stitch project in that you make specific stitches following a pattern, but the result is more abstract. It also comes together noticeably faster.

Together, we’ll decorate the edge of a tea towel while learning the basics through a group tutorial and a few helpful videos along the way. Kids over 8 are welcome with a responsible adult. No experience needed, and no pressure for perfection—this is a relaxed night for trying something new and making something with your hands. A $12 supply fee covers everything you’ll need for the project.

(One important note from the host: They have successfully completed exactly one Swedish weave tea towel and are enthusiastically learning alongside everyone else.)

The legend returns! Join us Saturday, June 27th from 1:00–4:00pm in Hanover for the fourth annual Super Slip N’ Slide Day—a gloriously ridiculous summer tradition built around speed, water, and a giant homemade slide.

We’re talking a 100-foot plastic tarp, pool noodle bumpers, plenty of dish soap, and enough splash-filled chaos to make you feel like a kid again. Take the slow-and-steady route or get a running start and see just how far you can fly. Either way, it’s hard not to laugh the whole way down.

Not into launching yourself across a backyard water runway? Come anyway. There’ll be drinks, snacks, shade, and plenty of good company for anyone who just wants to hang out and enjoy the afternoon. Families are welcome, and everything is completely free—just bring clothes you don’t mind getting soaked in.

Learn the basics of capturing nature on paper, explore simple techniques to bring landscapes to life, and enjoy the peaceful setting as you create. We will meet at the 5th Street Walking Bridge to cross over to Brown Island and then find a spot on the T. Potterfield Bridge to draw the Richmond skyline.

No experience required—just bring your curiosity, a sketchbook, and your favorite drawing tools. We'll provide guidance, encouragement, and a beautiful natural backdrop to fuel your creativity. Bring water and snacks or a picnic lunch.
