Learn A New Craft: Swedish Weaving

  • Area 10 Faith Community 2810 West Cary Street Carytown, VA, 23221 United States (map)

Join us on Thursday, July 23rd from 7–9pm at 2810 W. Cary St. (Depot) for an evening of learning Swedish weaving—a simple, rhythmic style of embroidery that creates beautiful geometric patterns across the surface of fabric. In Swedish weaving (also called huck weaving or huck embroidery), you work with thread and the weave of the fabric itself to create a design that sits on the surface. It's similar to a counted cross stitch project in that you make specific stitches following a pattern, but the result is more abstract. It also comes together noticeably faster.

Together, we’ll decorate the edge of a tea towel while learning the basics through a group tutorial and a few helpful videos along the way. Kids over 8 are welcome with a responsible adult. No experience needed, and no pressure for perfection—this is a relaxed night for trying something new and making something with your hands. A $12 supply fee covers everything you’ll need for the project.

(One important note from the host: They have successfully completed exactly one Swedish weave tea towel and are enthusiastically learning alongside everyone else.)
